Lease violation
Updated: March 21, 2023
A lease violation is an action taken by either a tenant or a landlord that is in breach of the terms of the lease agreement. This can include failing to pay rent on time, violating the terms of the lease regarding the use of the premises, causing damage to the property, or subletting without permission.
A lease is a contract between a landlord and a tenant that outlines the terms of the rental agreement, including the length of the term, the amount of rent due, the responsibilities of each party, and the use of the property. It is an important document for both the tenant and the landlord, as it sets the expectations and rules for the rental relationship.
When a tenant or landlord fails to comply with the terms of the lease, it is considered a violation. Depending on the severity of the violation, the landlord may be able to terminate the lease and evict the tenant. The tenant may also be held liable for any damages caused by the violation.
